G Clefs is a year-long class for any 6th, 7th, or 8th grade girl who joins choir at GMS but has never been in choir before.  This class focuses on fundamental vocal techniques, music literacy, & performance skills for the inexperienced female singer with an emphasis on unison & limited part singing.  G Clefs are required to perform in the Fall, Winter, Pre-UIL, & Spring concerts, & they are required to participate in Solo & Ensemble Contest in November.  Girls in G Clefs have
options to attend the choir caroling trip in December & to attend the Spring choir trip in May.  Girls in this class are required to pay $10 for a choir t-shirt, as well as the required $15 student fee.  A choir t-shirt is to be worn with blue jeans (with no holes or enhancements) & closed-toe shoes as the required concert attire for this class.  Only small, but limited, jewelry is permitted if it is worn.  Hair should be out of the student’s face & hair accessories should be dark & small.
 

Tiger Tones is a year-long class for any 6th, 7th, or 8th grade boy who joins choir at GMS.  Prior musical training is not a prerequisite to be in Tiger Tones.  This class focuses on fundamental vocal techniques, music literacy, & performance skills for the changing male voice with an emphasis on unison & tenor/bass singing.  Tiger Tones are required to perform in the Fall, Winter, Pre-UIL, & Spring concerts, & they are required to participate in Solo & Ensemble Contest in November, to participate in TMEA Region 18 MS Choir Contest in January (7th & 8th graders only), & to perform at UIL Choir Contest in April.  Boys in Tiger Tones have options to attend the choir caroling trip in December & to attend the Spring choir trip in May.  Boys in this class are required to pay $10 for a choir t-shirt & $8 for a necktie, as well as the required $15 student fee.  A long-sleeve, black, button-down dress shirt is to be worn with black dress slacks, black dress shoes, & a choir necktie as the required concert attire for this class.  
 

Canto Cats is an intermediate year-long class for 7th & 8th grade girls at GMS who have been in choir before but do not qualify to be in Grace Notes.  This class focuses on vocal techniques, music literacy, & performance skills for the developing female singer with an emphasis on unison & two-part singing.  Canto Cats are required to perform in the Fall, Winter, Pre-UIL, & Spring concerts, & they are required to participate in Solo & Ensemble Contest in November & to perform at UIL Choir Contest in April.  Girls in Canto Cats have options to attend the choir caroling trip in December, to participate in TMEA Region 18 MS Choir Contest in January, & to attend the Spring choir trip in May.  Girls in this class are required to pay $10 for a choir t-shirt & $60 for a formal dress, as well as a required $15 student fee. The formal dress is to be worn with black, closed-toe dress shoes as the required concert attire for this class.  Dresses should be hemmed two inches from the floor with dress shoes on.  Undergarments should be the appropriate color & concealed.  Only small, but limited, jewelry is permitted if it is worn.  Hair should be out of the student’s face & hair accessories should be dark & small.  8th grade Canto Cats or girls moving to Grace Notes may sell their formal dress to future Canto Cats members for a lesser fee at the end of the school year if they wish.   
 

Grace Notes is an advanced year-long auditioned class for 7th & 8th grade girls at GMS who have been in choir before.  Girls in Grace Notes are expected to exhibit exceptional behavior, singing ability, & work ethic while maintaining academic eligibility.  This class focuses on advanced vocal techniques, music literacy, & performance skills with an emphasis primarily on two- or three-part singing.  Grace Notes are required to perform in the Fall, Winter, Pre-UIL, & Spring concerts, to participate in Solo & Ensemble Contest in November, to participate in TMEA Region 18 MS Choir Contest in January, & to perform at UIL Choir Contest in April.  Girls in Grace Notes have options to attend the choir caroling trip in December & to attend the Spring choir trip in May.  Girls in this class are required to pay $10 for a choir t-shirt & $70 for a formal dress, as well as the required $15 student fee.  The formal dress is to be worn with black, closed-toe dress shoes & a faux pearl necklace (provided by the choir) as the required concert attire for this class.  Dresses should be hemmed two inches from the floor with dress shoes on.  Undergarments should be the appropriate color & concealed.  Small, complimentary earrings are the only other jewelry permitted to be worn.  Hair should be out of the student’s face & hair accessories should be dark & small.  8th grade Grace Notes may sell their formal dress to future Grace Note members for a lesser fee at the end of the school year if they wish.
