Mr. Brad Heckler grew up in Big Spring, TX, where he sang in choir at church & in public school 8th grade up through his senior year.  While in 8th grade choir, he received a division one rating at Vocal Solo & Ensemble Contest, & his 8th grade choir received a sweepstakes rating at UIL Choir Contest.  Brad was in his high school varsity mixed choir all four years, & he also sang in the auditioned show choir.  His high school choir received division one ratings in concert at UIL Choir Contest all four years, receiving a sweepstakes rating his senior year.  He was a high school All-Region Choir member for four years & a first-chair All-State Choir member his senior year.  He received division one ratings at high school UIL Vocal Solo & Ensemble Contest four years & division one ratings at UIL State Vocal Solo & Ensemble two years.


Brad graduated third in his high school class, receiving several music & academic scholarships.  He attended Angelo State University where he competed in the National Association of Teachers of Singing Contest, placing in the semi-finals twice.  While performing with the Angelo State University Chorale, he was voted “Choir Member of the Year.”  He graduated from Angelo State University with a 3.5 GPA & a Bachelor of Music degree with All-Level Music certification. 


During his 24 years as a teacher, Brad has instructed elementary music, middle school choir, high school choir, & piano classes.  His students have received division one ratings at UIL Choir Contest twenty-one years in a row, including twenty-two sweepstakes awards.  He has had many students place in the middle school All-Region Choir every year with one high school student placing in the All-State Choir.  His students have participated in Vocal Solo & Ensemble Contest & the AISD Choral Festival every year as well. 


Brad has been playing piano for about thirty-four years & has accompanied many choral performances.  In conjunction with the AISD Choral Festival, he has conducted the middle school choir five years, hosted rehearsals six years, accompanied the middle school choir ten years, recorded & edited the middle school choir rehearsal CD’s for sixteen years, & served as the coordinator for six years.  In conjunction with the TMEA Region 18 Middle School Vocal Division, Brad has recorded & edited the rehearsal CD’s for twelve years, served as treasurer for one year, served as vocal chair for two years, served as the website manager for six years, & hosted the clinic & concert for five years.  In conjunction with UIL Choir Contest, Brad has hosted a Pre-UIL Choral Festival for many of the AISD middle schools for sixteen years, served as host for UIL Choir Contest one
year, & currently serves as a TMAA judge for UIL Choir Contests.  Brad has collaborated on the production of several AISD musicals, including “Seussical,” “Guys & Dolls,” “Thoroughly Modern Millie,” “The Music Man,” “Annie,” “Beauty & the Beast,” “High School Musical,” & “The Little Mermaid.”  He has served as director of music for the United Methodist Church for two years & has been singing in the choir at First United Methodist Church of Austin for the past twelve years.
